State Policy Scorecards Overview
State Policy Scorecards examine how US states, territories, and the District of Columbia’s policies measure up against several of GLSEN’s recommended policies for affirming and inclusive schools. GLSEN advocates for public policies that promote a student’s ability to thrive and reach their full potential. Specifically, GLSEN recommends that learning communities establish the following four core supports: comprehensive policies that prohibit victimization, supportive educators and other adult allies, inclusive curriculum, and access to GSAs (Gender and Sexuality Alliances or Gay-Straight Alliances)
Public policy practitioners can use these scorecards in their advocacy for K-12 learning communities where LGBTQ+ students can thrive and reach their full potential.
States’ and territories’ scores will be evaluated biennially. These scorecards were last updated May 2022.
